A little while ago while driving through northern Connecticut – making my way north to Maine – I ran across a few shops that had prints. There was a few that I was drawn to. I found that it was the work by a gentleman named Bryan Nash Gill. The beauty of his prints is that his final design is defined by the resulting textures of each cut. Each woodcut is individual and would be comparable to the human fingerprint. Viewing his work makes you appreciate trees as living things in their own right. The guy simply does what he loves; getting to make one-of-a-kind prints from one-of-a-kind pieces of wood. His use of color is pretty fascinating too. All I can say is, if you get a chance to see one of his prints in person, do so – some are HUGE
Be sure to check out the video as well, as it shows a little of his process of creation.
Sadly, Bryan Nash Gill passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on Friday, May 17, 2013.
